The Simbo Community-Based Water Supply Organization (CBWSO) in Igunga District has announced two contractual job vacancies: Chief Supervisor and Accounts Officer/Accountant. The opportunities are open to eligible Tanzanian citizens who meet the stated education, residency and other requirements.

1. Chief Supervisor – 1 Post

The Chief Supervisor will have overall responsibility for supervising the activities of the Simbo CBWSO and supporting the organization in the delivery of water services.

Qualifications and eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be Tanzanian citizens.
  • Be residents of Simbo, Tambalale, Igoweko Chabutwa or Uswaya wards.
  • Have at least Form Four education.
  • Hold a Certificate or Diploma in Water Engineering, water-related technical studies, or a higher qualification from a government-recognized institution.
  • Be aged 18 to 45 years.
  • Be trustworthy and honest and have no criminal conviction.
  • Be able to work independently and supervise other employees.
  • Have computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher.
  • Be willing to work in a rural environment.

Main responsibilities

The successful candidate will oversee the organization’s activities and act as its chief executive and overall supervisor. Responsibilities include preparing organizational records and minutes, organizing meetings, advising on water-service matters and working with the Chairperson on relevant contracts.

The Chief Supervisor will also prepare monthly reports covering operations, maintenance and complaints for submission to the RUWASA District Manager. The role includes ensuring that quality water services reach community members and preparing and supervising implementation of the organization’s budget.

Employment terms and salary

This is a contractual appointment. The contract may be renewed or terminated depending on performance.

The salary will be determined according to the organization’s revenue collections and the salary rates established by the organization.

2. Accounts Officer/Accountant – 1 Post

The Accounts Officer/Accountant will be responsible for financial administration and reporting within the Simbo CBWSO.

Qualifications and eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be Tanzanian citizens.
  • Be residents of Simbo, Tambalale, Igoweko Chabutwa or Uswaya wards.
  • Be able to read and write and be of sound mind.
  • Have at least Form Four education.
  • Hold a Certificate or Diploma in Accountancy.
  • Be aged 18 to 45 years.
  • Be able to use computers, including Word, Excel, internet services and accounting software.
  • Be honest and trustworthy and have no criminal conviction.

Main responsibilities

The Accounts Officer/Accountant will work under the Chief Technician/Supervisor and oversee the organization’s financial activities.

The position involves supervising water-service payments and other collections, preparing income and expenditure reports, maintaining financial books and payment records, and keeping supporting documents for expenditure and procurement activities.

The officer will also make payments after the required approval, assist with budget preparation and implementation, support efforts to increase new water connections and payment of outstanding debts, and ensure that customer bills are issued on time.

Financial reports will be prepared on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual basis and submitted to the relevant CBWSO meetings and the District RUWASA Office.
