Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2027–2028
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships offer international researchers an opportunity to pursue research or further doctoral-level study in Switzerland. For the 2027–2028 academic year, applications are submitted online, with a deadline of 10 November 2026.
The scholarships are awarded by the Swiss Confederation to promote international exchange and research cooperation with more than 180 countries.
Who Can Apply?
The scholarships are aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD.
The Research and PhD Scholarship is available to postgraduate researchers in any discipline who hold at least a master’s degree or equivalent.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold a master’s degree or equivalent obtained before 31 July 2027.
- The qualification must be recognised by the relevant Swiss university.
- Be born after 31 December 1991.
- Applicants who have been in Switzerland for more than one year at the beginning of the scholarship are not eligible.
- Applicants who have already received a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship cannot apply for a second scholarship.
Where Can You Study?
Research scholarships are available for research or study at:
- Swiss cantonal universities
- Universities of applied sciences
- The two federal institutes of technology
Candidates must be nominated by an academic supervisor at one of the eligible Swiss higher education institutions to be considered.
