The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) is offering 42 learnership opportunities for unemployed young South Africans in Mpumalanga. The 12-month programme includes opportunities in Nature Conservation and Tourism Guiding, with successful learners receiving a R3,500 monthly stipend.
Applications close on 28 August 2026 at 16:00.
MTPA Learnership Programme 2026
The programme provides practical learning and workplace experience to young people interested in conservation and tourism.
There are 42 opportunities available across two programmes:
- 21 opportunities – National Certificate in Nature Conservation: Resource Guardianship, NQF Level 2
- 21 opportunities – FETC Tourism Guiding, NQF Level 2
Both programmes run for 12 months and offer a stipend of R3,500 per month.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be unemployed South African citizens.
- Be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Have Grade 12.
- Reside in Mpumalanga Province.
- Provide valid proof of residence.
- Not be studying at a tertiary institution.
- Not be registered for or have previously participated in another learnership.
- Be interested in outdoor and practical work.
People with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.
Nature Conservation Learnership
The Nature Conservation programme offers 21 opportunities for learners interested in conservation and practical outdoor work.
Placements include participating MTPA nature reserves such as Bushbuckridge, Blyde River Canyon, Verloren Valei, Songimvelo, Barberton, Mahushe Shongwe, Mthethomusha, Nooitgedacht Dam, Mdala, Loskop Dam, Mkhombo, Mabusa, SS Skosana, Manyeleti, Andover and Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserves.
Tourism Guiding Learnership
There are 21 opportunities available in the FETC Tourism Guiding NQF Level 2 programme.
Placements include Blyde River Canyon, Songimvelo, Barberton, Loskop Dam, Manyeleti and Andover Nature Reserves, as well as the Dr Esther Mahlangu and Kgodwana Cultural Village.

- Application letter stating the programme being applied for
- CV
- Grade 12 certificate
- Valid proof of residence
- Copy of ID
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted physically at the nearest MTPA station or nature reserve.

Applicants should clearly indicate which learnership programme they are applying for.
Email applications are not accepted.
Closing Date
The closing date is 28 August 2026 at 16:00.
Late applications will not be considered, so eligible applicants should make sure their documents are submitted before the deadline.
MTPA states that only shortlisted candidates will receive correspondence. Applicants who have not been contacted within three months after the closing date should regard their applications as unsuccessful.
