The South African State Theatre is inviting applications for an Electrician position within its Maintenance Department. The position is permanent, with a market-related salary, and applications close on 7 September 2026.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical systems, equipment and fixtures across the State Theatre’s offices, theatres and other premises.

Purpose of the Role

The Electrician will perform general electrical work throughout the State Theatre’s offices, theatre facilities and other premises.

The role focuses on keeping electrical equipment and systems properly maintained and operational while supporting a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Work from wiring diagrams and engineering drawings.
  • Maintain plans of the building’s electrical reticulation.
  • Install lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Maintain and repair electrical fixtures and equipment.
  • Remove, dismantle and overhaul motors or circuit breakers.
  • Work according to wiring regulations and company codes.
  • Requisition required materials.
  • Maintain small electrical equipment such as projectors, fans and domestic appliances.
  • Use electrical hand tools and circuit-testing equipment.
  • Work primarily with voltages up to 220V.
  • Perform planned electrical maintenance to minimise power outages.
  • Help maintain a safe working environment and ensure electrical systems are not overloaded.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • N6/Diploma in Electrician or an equivalent qualification
  • At least 2 years’ experience
  • Trade Test Certificate
